Dear Wake Forest community,

We are writing today to thank you for the remarkable contributions you have made to our community by participating in the Belonging and Inclusion Campus Evaluation survey. Because of your commitment to sharing your experiences, we were able to achieve strong response rates, including: 28% participation from students, 50% from faculty, and 68% from staff.

Now that the survey has closed, we want to share next steps as we aim to use analysis of these findings to increase Wake Foresters’ access to all that Wake Forest has to offer. First, over the next few months and into the summer, Rankin Climate (our external consultant) will analyze the survey data. Furthermore, Rankin will conduct targeted focus groups to collect qualitative data that deepens our understanding of initial survey results. Finally, during the fall 2024 semester, we will offer opportunities for the University community to learn about the results, as well as discuss findings. Please make sure to visit between next steps, as well as to learn more about additional points for engagement and feedback.

While the survey has concluded, the ongoing work remains: how can each of us, through individual and collective action, foster a campus environment that recognizes individuals’ needs, abilities, and potential so that all can feel a sense of inclusion and belonging. Thank you in advance for your continued commitment to our shared sense of community.

Belonging and Inclusion Campus Evaluation Executive Committee

As part of our commitment to institutional evaluation and actions that demonstrate inclusive excellence, Wake Forest administered a campus climate survey as part of the Belonging and Inclusion Climate Evaluation; it ran January 22-February 15, 2024. Wake Forest has partnered with Rankin Climate, an organization that has more than 20 years of experience working with more than 200 universities, to conduct the climate survey.

“This survey is designed to provide information about both positive and challenging aspects of our institutional climate, particularly as we strive to create and sustain a sense of belonging. It is your opportunity to describe your personal experiences, your observations, and to offer suggestions for change that might enhance the campus climate at Wake Forest.”

José Villalba,
Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer

How people could participate in the survey

On January 22, 2024, all students, faculty and staff of the Reynolda Campus, Charlotte campus, and School of Medicine received an email prompting them to take the survey, specifically directing them to an anonymous link or QR code to complete the survey.

We urged every member of our community to complete the survey when they receive the prompt – ideally in one sitting – because we need a strong participation rate to ensure the data we collect is representative of all our community members’ experiences.

Students, faculty, and staff did not have to answer every question and could skip any questions they considered to be uncomfortable.
